MUMBAI: A 76-year-old retired man from Ghatkopar became the latest victim of a sextortion racket . But here, the accused threatened the victim, claiming that a woman died by suicide and sent pictures of her body being taken in an ambulance and her parents at a police station to lodge a murder case against him, and demanded Rs5 lakh.
Ghatkopar police and cyber police have launched a parallel investigation. The victim who stays in Asalpha village in Ghatkopar complained that in September last year, when his wife and other members of his family had gone to the US to meet his son, and he was alone, he got a call from 'Sonia Sharma' who offered a online phone sex call.
'Sonia' made a semi-nude video call and he undressed himself. "After almost five months, 'Sonia' sent a good morning WhatsApp message and claimed she urgently needed a loan. When the victim said he did not have the money, she threatened to go to his place and lodged a police complaint," said an officer. tnn
