RMC ropes in SHGs for cleanliness drive
Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) on Thursday held a meeting with Self Help Groups (SHGs) to generate awareness among the women to compost their garbage. The women will be rewarded for keeping the environment clean under the Women Icons Leading Swachhata (WINS) Awards 2023.
The RMC has launched ‘Swachhotsav Campaign’, with the #womenledsanitation hasgtag as part of the Swachh Bharat Mission. The three-week drive, which was launched on March 8, aims to develop ‘Swachhta’ into a ‘Jan Andolan’.
Talking to TOI, RMC’s city manager Rupesh Ranjan, said, “We are promoting the WINS Awards 2023 event to generate awareness among the women to help in maintaining swachhata and also recognise their efforts towards this end. Around 500 SHGs have expressed interest in attending the event.”
Women entrepreneurs, change agents, self-help groups, and non-government organisations can apply for the WINS Awards 2023 on sbmurban.org.
The awards seek to recognise and honour women-led organisations and individuals that are driving change in urban sanitation and waste management. Registration is open till March 30.
Urban local bodies will evaluate entries and select five candidates to compete for the Swachhata prize at the state level.
