Aircraft movement doubled in Northeast: Jyotiraditya Scindia

GUWAHATI: The civil aviation industry has taken a big stride in the last one decade in the northeast, with total international and domestic aircraft movement in the region having more than doubled from April 2014 to April 2023. This was stated by Union civil aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in a reply in the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
“The total international and domestic aircraft movement for the North East Region was 4,334 and 8,994 in April 2014 and January 2023 respectively,” read the reply.
He told the house that the number of operational airports in the northeastern region has gone up from 9 to 16 during the period.
“There were 9 operational airports in 2014 in the northeast. At present, there are 16 operational airports in the northeast. Additionally, advanced landing ground at Ziro has also been operationalised,” Scindia said.
