KAKINADA: An assistant motor vehicle inspector was brutally attacked with a sickle by a coconut vendor in
Andhra Pradesh's Kakinada on Friday.
The driver of the vehicle was also injured in the attack. Both of them have been admitted to the Government General Hospital, Kakinada.
According to Kakinada district Superintendent of Police M Ravindranath Babu, Midde Chinna Rao was checking the records of the van in which one Penta Durga Prasad was selling coconuts. Chinna Rao found that the fitness certificate and vehicle insurance were expired and he asked Durga Prasad to pay a fine of about Rs 20,000. After this, a verbal argument took place between Chinna Rao and Durga Prasad. Durga Prasad took the sickle which he used to break open the coconuts and hacked Chinna Rao and his driver Guthula Vera Venkata Satyannarayana brutally.
Kakinada DSP, P Muralikrishna Reddy who was on rounds nearby rushed to the spot and arrested the accused. Later, Chinna Rao who sustained severe injuries and his driver were shifted to Government General Hospital. The condition of Chinna Rao is said to be critical as he is a 61-years-old person.
Superintendent, GGH, Kakinada, Dr Hemalatha said that Chinna Rao was conscious when he was brought to the hospital and there was no pulse and blood pressure. After infusing six units of blood, she said that he returned to consciousness.
She said that Chinna Rao has sustained severe injuries in his abdomen, neck, intestines, face and chin. She said that abdomen surgery and plastic surgery are being conducted by surgeons.
