The leading bourse has come up with this funny initiative called "Money Minded Malini" to educate investors about avoiding common mistakes while investing in the stock market.
The video series featuring influencer Shraddha kicked in with a short take on how greed in markets and taking advice from random people can hurt investors.
"Multibagger tere pyaar me, lut gaye ham bazaar me, Yaha do minute me noodles nahi bante, aapko rice banana he? Soch kar Samajh Kar... No investment without proper information....," (I got destroyed in the market by chasing multibaggers.. we can't make noodles in 2 minutes, you want to cook rice?), read the series introduction video that seeks to raise awareness among investors.
Through a sarcastic short video, the intention of the exchange is to make investors take advice only from Sebi-registered investment advisors and stop being greedy.
The new awareness series by NSE comes in the wake of recent pump-and-dump scheme, wherein market regulator Sebi found that prominent actor Arshad Warsi and others have been involved in alleged stock price manipulation.
Sebi has recently barred noted bollywood actor Arshad Warsi, his wife Maria Goretti and some others from the securities market for alleged involvement in the pump-and-dump scheme through Youtube channels.
While market participants hailed the regulator for enforcing tough penalties, the actor on his part has denied any wrongdoing.
As the name indicates, the pump-and-dump scheme involves driving the share price higher through false and manipulative information, by typically someone who has a position in the stock.
At the elevated share price levels, the stock will then be "dumped", resulting in its price crash, making retail investors gullible and vulnerable to loss of money.
