Surat: Police arrested on Thursday two men for allegedly snatching a gold chain worth Rs 50,000 from a 67-year-old woman in Katargam area. The two were identified as Arjun Vaghela (19) and Naju Parmar (22).
Arjun has only one hand and he snatched the woman’s gold chain after eating boiled eggs at her store. He paid Rs 50 for the eggs and then snatched the chain. He escaped from the spot on a motorcycle with Naju.
They were identified from the CCTV footage recovered by police from the area. Police recovered the chain. Both Arjun and Naju work as labourers.
Around 10.30pm on Tuesday, Arjun went to Kusum Khatri’s eatery near Devi Krupa Society and snatched the gold chain after eating and paying for five boiled eggs. The woman shouted for help but he managed to escape.
Police investigation revealed that Arjun was earlier arrested for his alleged involvement in a motorcycle theft in Singanpore area.
“The accused told police that they snatched the chain to make quick money. After observing for a while that it would be easy to escape with the gold chain, they executed the plan,” said police.
Arjun had lost his left hand around 10 years ago in a road accident.
