Thiruvananthapuram: The Venjaramoodu police are searching for two unidentified men in a case related to setting fire to two cars parked in front of a house at Nellanad in the wee hours of Thursday.
From the CCTV visuals one of the two men, who came in a white car, can be seen jumping the boundary wall and setting the cars on fire after pouring petrol on them.
The police are trying to trace the number of the vehicle from CCTV footage, and are also observing people who have enmity with the owners of the vehicles and the family.
A Toyota Fortuner and a Tata Altroz parked in front of the house of Murukan (45), of Muruka Vilas at Muthakkal Muriyil at Nellanad were destroyed in the fire. The Fortuner is owned by Murukan, who works in a Gulf country, and Tata Altroz is owned by Ashok Kumar, Murukan’s brother-in-law.
Murukan’s mother who came out of the house hearing noises saw the cars on fire.
In the CCTV footage a man wearing pants and T-shirt can be seen pouring a bottle of petrol on the cars and setting them on fire. Forensic experts and finger print officials have collected evidence from the spot.
Venjaramoodu police have registered a case on the incident under sections of IPC 447 for punishment of criminal trespass, 436 for mischief by fire or other explosive substance with an intention to damage a house or other properties and 34 for acts done by several persons.
“We are trying to identify the vehicle number of the accused, and also taking the details of the people with whom Murukan and his family have any kind of enmity. We have some details and they are under observation,” said the police.
