Nagpur University’s 110th convocation to be held in mid-April

NAGPUR: The Nagpur University will be holding its 110th convocation in April second week, probably on April 13, as per its officials. The NU administration has contacted AICTE chairman TG Sitharam, former director of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT)-Guwahati to invite him as the chief guest. Officials were also trying to invite Indian Army chief Manoj Pande but were yet to get his dates.
According to them, the university would be bestowing two honorary Doctor of Letters (DLitt) in the ceremony to be held at Suresh Bhat auditorium.
NU has finalized two names that included Satyanarayan Nuwal, chairman of Solar Industries India Limited, the city-headquartered industrial explosives and ammunition major. The second one would be conferred on one of the Amte brothers for their social services and contribution to the society.
Officials said that chancellor Ramesh Bais has given his consent to NU top brass for attending the ceremony. In 2021, NU had awarded honorary DLitt to former Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Bobde. It may award few more regular DLitt, but names are yet to be finalized.
In the 109th convocation, NU had awarded 77,378 degrees that included one DLitt, 531 PhDs, 10,856 postgraduate and 66,300 graduate. Former education minister Uday Samant was the guest in the last convocation.
