NAVI MUMBAI: The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) commissioner has terminated the services of two fire department personnel for having more than two children, following complaints against them.
A few more NMMC staffers who allegedly have more than two children are under NMMC scrutiny as well. Activists such as Vikram Shinde have raised concerns over the fate of their families.
The two are fireman Sachin Babar from the Vashi fire station and driver-cum-operator Ganesh Gade from the Airoli fire station. Both were hired in 2007.
A civic official said, "The move has rattled those who may have hidden such information. The two may move court to seek relief."
NMMC commissioner Rajesh Narvekar said, "Their services have been terminated after a detailed inquiry. A similar enquiry is underway for a few more against whom complaints have been made."
