With running back and former Mt. Healthy High School standout David Montgomery's reported agreement on a three-year, $18 million deal with the Detroit Lions that includes $11 million guaranteed, the Lions were expected to move on from free-agent running back Jamaal Williams, who led the NFL last season with 17 rushing touchdowns.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday night that Williams agreed to a three-year deal with the New Orleans Saints.

The Cincinnati Bengals were among several teams in the mix for Williams, according to a report Tuesday night via Twitter from Go Long's Tyler Dunne.

Williams, 27, finished his second season with the Lions with a career-best 1,066 rushing yards. In his first four NFL seasons, he he 1,985 rushing yards and 961 receiving yards with 18 combined touchdowns for the Green Bay Packers.

Williams has faced the Bengals twice - for Detroit in a 2021 loss and for the Packers in a 2017 win - but played sparingly in both games.

The Enquirer's Kelsey Conway wrote earlier Tuesday that the Bengals are likely facing a total overhaul at running back with Samaje Perine leaving for the Denver Broncos.
