Erie Rise employee accused of sexually assaulting 14-year-old student on bus in December
Authorities have charged an employee of the Erie Rise Leadership Academy Charter School after they said a 14-year-old girl accused him of sexually assaulting her on a bus at an away basketball game in December.
Peter D. Boose, 61, of Erie, was arraigned Thursday morning on felony counts of statutory sexual assault, institutional sexual assault and corruption of minors and on misdemeanor counts of endangering the welfare of children and corruption of minors. Erie 2nd Ward District Judge Ed Wilson set Boose's bond at $75,000.
Detectives with the Erie Bureau of Police and the Erie County District Attorney's Office accuse Boose in a criminal complaint filed on Wednesday of having sex with the girl on the afternoon of Dec. 14 in the 2000 block of East Lake Road in Erie.
The investigation into the incident was launched on Feb. 17, when Erie police received a Childline referral which listed a student at Erie Rise as a victim of corruption of minors and sexual assault. The 14-year-old was identified as the victim and Boose, referred to as a "bus driver" for Erie Rise, was listed as the alleged perpetrator in the referral, investigators wrote in Boose's criminal complaint.
Boose and the girl had sexual intercourse on a school bus at an after-school away basketball game, according to the allegation.
Detectives wrote in the affidavit of probable cause that the girl, who they said was "associated" with the girls' basketball team at Erie Rise, told them during a Feb. 24 interview that she traveled with the team to the game and remained on the bus alone with Boose while the basketball game was going on.
The girl stated that Boose had sex with her, indicating it occurred in December. Investigators wrote they believe the game took place on Dec. 14 at a location in the 2000 block of East Lake Road in Erie.
Erie Rise's interim CEO, Aubrey Favors, could not immediately be reached for comment on Thursday.
A lawyer for Boose was not listed on his online court docket sheet.
Erie Rise is slated to close at the end of the current school year after the Erie School Board voted in January to shutter the charter school due to poor test scores and failure to meet standards negotiated with the Erie School District.

The board voted to invoke a "surrender clause" in an improvement plan that the school district and Erie Rise agreed to in return for the Erie School Board renewing the school's charter in November 2019. The clause required Erie Rise to forfeit its charter automatically if it failed to meet benchmarks in the improvement plan which were based on Erie Rise's scores on the 2021-22 Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests.
