Assam 'paper leak': 22 more held in massive crackdown

GUWAHATI: In a massive crackdown to unearth the source of the reported question paper leak of the Class X state board examination, Assam Police have arrested 22 more people, including 12 minors, since Tuesday night.
Confirming the arrests, IGP (Law and Order) and Assam Police spokesperson PK Bhuyan on Wednesday evening said of the 25 arrested so far in connection with the general science 'question paper leak', 12 are minors. He added that the other 13 arrested included four service holders. "The arrests have been made from various districts in upper Assam. Those arrested on Wednesday are mostly students from Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Tinsukia districts in upper Assam," Bhuyan told TOI.
In the meanwhile, several students from districts were brought to the CID headquarters here on Wednesday for questioning in connection with the alleged leak that has left both the state government and Board of Secondary Education, Assam red-faced. DGP GP Singh on Wednesday morning reached Dibrugarh from where at least eight students have been arrested so far. Incidentally, most of these students are from classes XI and XII and are students of Salt Brook Academy - a premier educational institute of the state.
The source of the reported leak has to be detected. After getting a conclusive report from the police, we will decide the next course of action," education minister Ranoj Pegu said.
The general science paper scheduled on Monday was cancelled the previous night after a handwritten question paper went viral on the social media.
According to sources in the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (Seba), several questions of the "leaked paper" matched the questions of the original paper.
