2 lanes to Rajnigandha Chowk: How cops are clearing up snarls on Delhi-Noida Direct Flyway
Workers shift concrete barriers to create an additional lane for traffic
NOIDA: To decongest the Delhi-Noida Direct (DND) Flyway and its two loops on the Noida side, the traffic police on Wednesday put up jersey barriers and reserved two lanes for traffic moving towards Rajnigandha Chowk from Delhi.
Instead of driving straight onto the loop joining the Film City road, they are encouraging Greater Noida-bound motorists to take a U-turn from Sector 16.
The traffic modifications were introduced after commuters complained of bottlenecks and tailbacks up to the toll booth on the flyway after the Ashram flyover extension reopened on March 6. TOI has also reported that Noida-bound commuters were stuck for nearly 30 minutes on the flyway as its four-lane traffic narrowed to two lanes on the loop on Film City road and converged with traffic exiting from Film City in the evening. The second flyway loop connects with Noida Sector 14-A and Mayur Vihar.
Noida traffic inspector Ashutosh Singh said till Tuesday one of the four lanes of the flyway -- on the extreme right – was reserved for commuters going towards Rajnigandha Chowk. Following the TOI report, the traffic police visited the DND flyway and shifted the concrete barrier towards the left to create an additional lane for traffic moving towards Sector 16, he said.
“Now, commuters going from DND Flyway to Sector 16, Rajnigandha Chowk and then Sector 12/22, Noida Stadium, and Sector 62 will have a smooth ride. The loop towards Mayur Vihar sees relatively less traffic. But there is congestion on the second loop that joins the Film City road. We advise people to take the U-turn at the Rajnigandha Chowk and come to the Film City road instead of taking this loop during peak hours,” Singh said. Police personnel were also deployed at the spot to guide commuters.
Jitendra Kumar, a resident of Sector 78, told TOI that he takes the DND Flyway for commuting to his office in Delhi every day. “On Wednesday evening, I took the flyway and drove straight to Rajnigandha Chowk and took a U-turn. The traffic flow was relatively smooth than the past few days,” he said.
Some commuters, however, complained of congestion as a DTC bus broke down on the lane towards Rajnigandha Chowk. The traffic police said the bus broke down at 6.22pm and could be towed away by 7pm.
