Kanpur: A 42-year-old Unnao-based private dentist was brutally murdered in Maharajpur police station area of Kanpur allegedly by his friend, an Air Force sergeant posted at Kanpur’s Chakeri Air Force, over what he claimed was a love affair with the victim's wife.
The incident took place on Monday night and came to light when the police detained dentist Gaurav Pratap Singh’s friend Sergeant Mudit Srivastava, a resident of Ahirwan, on the basis of suspicion. During interrogation, Mudit confessed to his crime and added that he was having a love affair with Gaurav’s wife.
“During questioning, Mudit claimed that he killed his doctor friend Gaurav because he (Mudit) was having an affair with the former’s wife Priyanka, and suspected that Gaurav had come to know about their affair. Mudit felt that now Gaurav might kill him, so he killed him first,” said ACP Chakeri Amar Nath.
He added, “On the basis of the clues provided by Mudit, the police recovered Gaurav’s body by the roadside in Ruma industrial area under the limits of Maharajpur police station on Tuesday night.”
The police said that Gaurav, a private dentist and a resident of Unnao’s Awas Vikas Colony, had gone to his in-laws’ house in Rajiv Vihar in Naubasta, Kanpur to drop his wife Priyanka in a car on Monday. “While returning home, he had told his wife that he would visit Mudit. However, when Gaurav did not reach home till night, Priyanka started searching,” said police.
The police further said that on Tuesday, she reached Chakeri police station with her maternal uncle Ravendra Pratap and registered a complaint with regard to her missing husband.
Later, on the basis of suspicion, when the police interrogated Mudit strictly, he confessed to his crime saying that he had killed Gaurav and threw his body in the bushes along the Kanpur-Fatehpur-Allahabad highway in Maharajpur, Kanpur. The police recovered the body late at night on the basis of clues provided by Mudit.
ACP Chakeri said, “Mudit first took Gurav to his official residence and made him consume liquor. After this, he took Gaurav to a desolate spot in the city's Ruma industrial area and later hit his head with a heavy object several times. After this, he dumped the body in the bushes and fled away.”
“The role of the victim’s wife is being probed. If she is proved guilty, she will also be arrested and sent to jail,” said Ravindra Kumar DCP East.
According to the police, Priyanka was Gaurav’s second wife, his first marriage was with a woman named Ruchi, from whom he had a daughter. Then both of them got divorced. About four years ago, Gaurav married Priyanka, the elder daughter of Kamal Singh, a resident of Rajiv Nagar, Naubasta, with whom he had a three-year-old son. Gaurav’s father Prabal Pratap Singh was a homeopathy doctor. On the other hand, his mother Kusuma Singh was the daughter of Ganga Baksh Singh, who was an MLA and minister of state for several times from Hadha seat of Unnao.
