BATHINDA: A day after a news channel aired a live interview of gangster Lawrance Bishnoi allegedly from a jail in the state, the Punjab police intelligence wing head, Jaskaran Singh, on Wednesday visited the bereaved family of slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala. It is learnt that he tried to calm down the agitated family, who is preparing to hold the first barsi (anniversary) of Moose Wala on March 19 at Mansa.
The bereaved family was angry at the airing of the interview from a jail and raised questions at the claims made by the state government that enough was being done to take on the accused in the Moose Wala murder case. Bishnoi reportedly used harsh words against the singer in his interview to a private channel.
Jaskaran Singh, who is also heading the special investigation team (SIT) probing the killing of Moose Wala, was accompanied by Mansa senior superintendent of police (SSP) Nanak Singh and Mansa superintendent of police (SP) Balkrishan.
The trio spent over an hour with Moose Wala's parents. Both mother and father of the singer are learnt to have vented their ire at the state administration, saying that the killers of their son are getting special treatment and now they are even coming forward and giving interviews.
GThe family has decided to make some revelations at Moose Wala's anniversary on March 19. Talking to TOI over phone, Jaskaran Singh said they had gone to meet the family to assure them that the police were doing everything to ensure justice in the case. The police have arrested almost all the accused persons in the case and extradition process is on to get the other accused, who are out of the country, he said.
He said though the parents were somewhat agitated, we were apprised about various things. To a query about the source of the interview, Jaskaran Singh said it was not shot in any of the jails or the police station in Punjab, where Bishnoi was taken during transit remand.
The police are investigating the exact location of the interview, he added. He also said it was not a preemptive move to stop the family from speaking anything during the barsi. A news channel on Tuesday had aired the interview where Bishnoi claimed that Sidhu Moose Wala was siding with their rival group and his manager was involved in criminal activities.
Bishnoi had also claimed that Moose Wala never indulged in social activities and had joined a political party to get power, but people did not like him, which was proved by his defeat in the elections. Now, his father is making baseless allegations, Bishnoi said. The gangster, though, claimed that he had nothing to do with the killing of Moose Wala, which was planned and executed by his group members, including Goldy Brar, as he was lodged in a jail then and he had got to know about it in the jail.
He said the police chargesheet had made him and Goldy main conspirators of Moose Wala's killing at Jawaharke near Mansa on May 29, 2022. Last week, the singer's family had protested outside the Punjab assembly and demanded action against Baltej Pannu, director, media, for the CM. Balkaur Singh, Moose Wala's father, said he was losing hope of justice.
