A mother and two young daughters drowned along the Louisiana Gulf Coast in Cameron Parish on Sunday, March 12. The family had recently moved to the area from Ethel, Mississippi, according to area reports

The bodies included 28-year-old Samantha Alexander and her two daughters, ages seven and eight, WTOC11 reported. Alexander's 9-year-old son was rescued after waving down law enforcement while in the water.

Alexander's younger 3-year-old son was roaming the area alone and told a resident his mom went swimming, prompting a call to authorities.

Cameron Parish Sheriff Ron Johnson told WTOC11 that the tide was low upon their arrival, and they found the bodies in different locations on the Gulf side of the rocks.

The two girls were taken to a hospital in Port Arthur, and Alexander and her son were transported to Lake Charles, the report said. The 9-year-old boy has been released from the hospital.
