Ranchi: The proceedings of the
budget session in the Jharkhand assembly was interrupted on Wednesday as BJP’s demonstrations inside the
House demanding chief minister Hemant Soren’s statement on the newly notified recruitment regulations and the state government’s plans on the 1932 Khatiyan-based locals’ bill led to unruly scenes.
The House also saw protests from the MLAs in the treasury benches as they accused the BJP MLAs of insulting the traditions and violating the codes of conduct of the assembly by wearing saffron T-shirts with slogans such as ‘60/40 Nay Chaltau’ and ‘1932 Khatiyan Ki Bhailo’ printed on them.
Speaker Rabindra Nath Mahto, during the question hour, urged BJP lawmakers to put their T-shirts away. “Please uphold the dignity of the House,” he said.
Refusing to budge, BJP MLAs demanded a reply on the issues from Soren and descended to the well.
Silli MLA Sudesh Mahto said the logjam was ensuing because the opposition wanted answers to two questions for three consecutive days but the government was reluctant. “It is you who has to find a solution,” Sudesh said.
Mahto then adjourned the proceedings for an hour. Protests continued even as the House resumed for zero hour proceedings, forcing Mahto to adjourn the House till post lunch.
Post lunch, the MLAs from the treasury benches then descended to the well to protest against their BJP counterparts, forcing Mahto to adjourn the proceedings for the third time in the day.
