ARA: In a tragic incident,four children below 13 years of age drowned while taking bath in Sone river in Bhojpur district on Wednesday morning.
The incident occured at about 10am at the Ahiman Chak Balu Ghat at the border of Sandesh and Ajimabad police station areas.The deceased have been identified as Shubham Kumar (6), son of Jai Choudhary, Amit Kumar (12), son of Virendra Choudhary, Rohit Kumar (12), son of Bajrangi Choudhary and Rohit Kumar (9), son of Ram Rai Choudhary, all from Nurpur village under Ajimabad police station area.
CM NItish KUmar expressed grief and asked the officials to pay Rs4 lakh each to the kin of the deceased.
Kids went too far & drowned in the river: Sandesh SHOSandesh SHO Awadhesh Kumar, CO Umesh Choudhary and other police personnel rushed to the spot and fished out the bodies with the help of villagers.
"The four children had gone to pluck 'ber' fruits (jujube) that are found in plenty near the bank of Sone river at this time of the year. Later, they went to take bath in the river. Since they belonged to the Mallah (fishermen) community, they knew swimming but, perhaps, they went too far or deep and drowned in the river," the Sandesh SHO said.
Angry locals blocked NH-81 on the Piro-Nasriganj road for about 2 hours.
Piro SDPO Rahul Kumar Singh and other officials visited the spot and assured adequate compensation as per the relevant law to the bereaved families. Only then the blockade was lifted, said Ajimabad SHO Jyoti Kumari.
