Indian-Origin Appointed US Assistant Secretary of Air Force

New Delhi , 16 March : On March 15, Ravi Chaudhary, an Indian-American, was confirmed by the United States Senate as the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment, with a vote of 65-29. This appointment makes him one of the top civilian leaders in the Pentagon and the first Indian-American to hold this position.

Chaudhary’s nomination was supported by US Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), who released a statement congratulating him on his achievement. She shared that Chaudhary had previously aspired to serve the United States as an Air Force pilot, and has dedicated his career to public service. She expressed confidence in his qualifications and experience for the role and anticipated working with him to support the men and women of the Air Force.

Chaudhary served as an active duty Air Force pilot for over 20 years between 1993 and 2015, and completed numerous combat missions in Afghanistan and Iraq. After retiring from military service, Chaudhary served as a senior official within the Regions and Center Operations and Office of Commercial Space at the Federal Aviation Administration for five years. He was also appointed by President Obama to serve on the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders.

As the Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Energy, Installations, and the Environment, Chaudhary’s responsibilities include overseeing the Air Force’s sustainability and operational readiness, as well as developing installations and basing strategies and ensuring the quality of military housing.

Chaudhary’s appointment is a significant achievement for the Indian-American community, highlighting their increasing representation in the US government and their contributions to public service.
