Dubray Books is set to open a new landmark branch in Dublin city centre as the revival of books sales that commenced over the pandemic continues.

The new bookshop, which will be located at the corner of Henry Street and Mary Street on the north side of the city, will open at the end of the month.

Dubray has signed a 10-year lease on the new premises, which will span 3,200 sqft across two floors.

With 40pc more shelf space, this outlet will replace the temporary smaller location that the Irish bookseller opened in the Ilac Shopping Centre on Henry Street last summer.

All 10 staff in the current location will relocate to the new store in the coming weeks.

The new larger store will also offer a book subscription service, as well as a personal book shopper experience, for customers.

Dubray, which was founded 50 years ago this year, currently has a network of 11 stores across Ireland, with nine based in Dublin.

Three new shops, including the retailer’s first in Cork, have opened since 2020 and it now employs 121 people across Ireland.

The retailer has reported an increase in demand for reading material in recent years, accelerated by the Covid pandemic lockdowns.

Dubray posted an after-tax profit of €1m in the year to January 30 last year, up from €0.7m reported for the prior financial year.

Sales were around €10m for the same period

The bookseller was acquired by Eason in early 2020, with Dubray maintaining its operations as a separate brand..

“Over the years, it had long been our wish to take Dubray to the north side, so we are thrilled that our temporary store on Henry St has proved very successful and supported our decision to open a permanent store just around the corner,” managing director Maria Dickenson said.
