Nashik gets air connectivity to Goa, Nagpur & Ahmedabad
Prior to this, Delhi and Hyderabad were the only two cities connected with Nashik
NASHIK: The city from Wednesday got air connectivity to three new destinations — Goa, Nagpur and Ahmedabad — taking the total number to five.
Prior to this, Delhi and Hyderabad were the only two cities connected with Nashik by air. An official from the private airline company that started the flights on the three new routes said they received an overwhelming response for all the three destinations.
“Occupancy in the flights on all the three routes was between 75% and 90%,” the official said. As per the official, daily flights will be available on the three new routes. “A 72-seater plane will be used for the three destinations,” the official said.
In July 2022, a low-cost private airline had started flights to Delhi and Hyderabad. These were the only two routes operational from Nashik airport till Tuesday.
Manish Rawal, chairman of the aviation committee of Nashik Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (NIMA) and Ambad Industries & Manufacturers’ Association (AIMA), termed the starting of new flights as positive development.
“Connecting Nashik city by air with Goa, Nagpur and Ahmedabad will boost the growth of the district. This will help growth of businesses and tourism,” he said. Earlier, in February 2019, the state-owned Alliance Air had started flights between Nashik and Pune. Later, a new flight to Ahmedabad was also started which was later extended till Delhi.
But the airline had to stop the operations in October 2022 after the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme of the Centre, under the Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), came to an end.
