HYDERABAD: The Abdullapurmet police, on Wednesday, arrested a man on charges of killing his wife and their 43-dayold infant, allegedly following a heated argument between them. According to the police, Y Dhanaraj attacked his wife with a beer bottle and axe before pushing the baby boy, Y Kriyansh, into a water sump in the house.
The double murder took place at around 1.30pm at Anajpur village in Abdullapurmet. Soon afterwards, locals handed Dhanaraj over to the police, who took him into custody. Cops said, that the accused’s clothes was covered in blood-stains at the time of arrest.
As it turns out Dhanaraj, a labourer by profession, and his wife had been at loggerhead for several days. On Wednesday afternoon, the couple’s elder daughter saw her father indiscriminately beating her mother in the house and rushed out to call for help.
She alerted another minor boy who, in turn, brought the issue to the notice of village elders. But by the time they reached, he had already killed both the victims. “Lavanya’s family members alleged that she was harassed for additional dowry and hence, we have booked him for dowry death,” said a Rachakonda police official.
Turns out, she had returned to the husband’s house around noon the same day, post her delivery at her parent’s house. When the accused Dhanaraj was questioned, police said he claimed he was annoyed with his wife who allegedly kept claiming that Kriyansh is not his biological son.
“Though she knew that the boy is Dhanaraj’ son, her frequent provocation triggered him. That is why he killed her and the boy,” police added.
