Surat: Six fresh cases of Covid-19 were reported in the city on Wednesday. Within a week, the number of cases has increased three times from two. Meanwhile, the SMC health department held a workshop to train its staff to enhance the monitoring of cases.
The six new patients are stable and have been advised home isolation. Of the new patients, three are women (all housewives) and three are men. Of the three men, one is a diamond artisan, one is a security guard and another a doctor.
All six patients are fully vaccinated and they do not have a history of Covid-19 infection. They were tested after they complained of cold and cough for over three days. A total of 87 people who came in contact with the positive patients were tested but were found negative.
“There is a significant rise in the number of Covid-19 cases while there are no positive cases of H3N2. To further strengthen the monitoring, a workshop was held,” said a health official of SMC.
Municipal commissioner Shalini Agarwal held a meeting with health officials to review the preparedness. A central emergency control room for health monitoring will be set up at the Integrated Command and Control Centre. Earlier, the health monitoring control room was set up at a health centre in Vesu. SMC’s 120 doctors and 650 paramedic staff have been trained for monitoring and reporting of Covid-19 and seasonal flu cases. Zone-wise rapid response teams have been prepared to identify cases at an early stage.
A mock drill to
test the oxygen plants will be held on Saturday.
