RMC to install more tube wells to tackle water crisis
Ranchi: The Ranchi Municipal Corporation will increase the number of mini high yield drilled tube wells (HYDT) across the city to prevent drinking water shortage during summer.
This year, the RMC will install an additional 159 mini HYDT in the 53 municipal wards.
Deputy mayor, Sanjeev Vijaywargiya, said, "Each year, we increase the number of mini HYDT in order to assist communities with water and to aid in-ground water conservation, management and control. The mini HYDT is an excellent step towards sustainable management of groundwater resources. The RMC will establish three mini HYDT in each of the 53 wards. In addition to boring, water tanks will be erected."
Installation work will commence in March.
"The RMC increases the number of bore wells each year in an effort to assist locals. If there is a severe water shortage in any ward, the councillors of that ward should be provided with an increased number of mini HYDT for their civic convenience," the deputy mayor said.
In order to assist people, there are a total of 2,560 handpumps located across the region, as well as 1,374 mini HYDT and 174 HYDT installed by the RMC.
An RMC official said, “The RMC promotes rainwater harvesting as a technique for collecting and storing rainwater at micro watershed size, including roof top harvesting, for future consumption or ground recharge.”
Under the Har Ghar Jal Yojna, the water facility is being provided to homes. Rashim Choudhary, the ward councillor for Harmu, said, "Due to widespread water shortage in the city and since not everyone can afford to get a personal boring done, HYDT — a form of public bore well constructed by the RMC assists individuals in obtaining water for daily use. Throughout the summer, the water level decreases, but the new borewell does not goes down making it the only source of water for the middle class people."
