Bihar: Masked goons loot Rs 20 lakh from Samastipur bank

PATNA: Armed miscreants looted Rs 20 lakh from the Harpur Ailoth branch of South Bihar Gramin Bank in Samastipur on Wednesday.
Police and witnesses said four criminals on two bikes with their faces covered with masks and helmets overpowered the customers and bank staff at gunpoint soon after the bank opened. While two robbers went inside the bank, the other two kept on guarding the bank gate.

The criminals made the customers and the bank staff sit on the ground with their faces down before emptying the counters and cash chest. They stuffed the cash in gunny bags and fled after bringing down the bank shutter from outside, a witness said.
"The bank officials informed us about around Rs20 lakh loot. We have formed an SIT and the probe is on," Samastipur SP Vinay Tiwari told TOI.
Raids on to nab robbers: DSP
A senior police officer posted with Musrigharari police station, Pankaj Kumar, said the CCTV footages of the area were being screened to identify the robbers.
Samastipur DSP SH Fakri told the local media that the police have sealed the entry and exit routes of the town and conducting raids to nab the miscreants.
Of late, several incidents of bank robberies have been reported from various parts of the state, prompting the opposition to question the law and order situation in the state. The main opposition BJP alleged the law and order situation has touched its nadir after chief ministerNitish Kumar joined hands with Lalu Prasad's RJD.
