25L answer sheets to pile up per exam day for SSC and HSC: Teacher unions
Nagpur: The impact of boycott on state board exam evaluation can be guaged by the number of answer sheets which will pile up every exam day, say teacher unions.
In support of the ongoing strike by state government employees, teacher unions have decided to stop evaluation of SSC and HSC answer sheets but will continue with the invigilation duties.
Ashok Gavhankar, general secretary of Vidarbha Junior College Teachers Association (VJCTA) said, “Every exam day around 25 lakh copies will pile up for both SSC and HSC. For Std X, we get an average of 15 lakh copies per exam across the state. For HSC, the average is 10 lakh because of different streams and options in subjects.”
From Monday, when the boycott call was given, two major papers of SSC and HSC have been conducted. Going by the statistical interpretation by VJCTA, around 50 lakh answer sheets may have already piled up by now.
Another major paper of SSC is scheduled this week along with one important subject for HSC’s arts stream.
Gavhankar said, “When we had last called for boycott of HSC evaluation, 60 lakh answer sheets had piled up. However the boycott was called off and evaluation work on those pending copies had started in earnest.”
The difference in this second boycott call by VJCTA is that they have been joined by teacher unions representing SSC evaluators too.
Gavhankar said, “Now answer sheets of two exams are getting piled up each exam day, that’s why the multiplier effect. We are hoping that the government recognizes the problems and works for a solution.”
