2 kids run over by car, 10-yr-old loses his leg
Ludhiana: Two minor rag-pickers were run over by a speeding car near Dholewal on Monday night. The car dragged the victims a few meters. The boys were stuck under the car and onlookers had to turn it over to rescue them. The victims have been identified as Sonu, 16 and Monu, 10, who are homeless and sleep under Jagraon bridge. One of Monu’s legs was severed in the accident. Onlookers rushed the children to Ludhiana civil hospital, from where they were referred to PGIMER, Chandigarh due to their critical condition. Division number 6 police have seized the Hyundai i20 car but the driver got away. The accused has been identified as Mukesh Kumar, a cook at a chicken shop near Dholewal. Investigating officer, ASI Balvir Singh said that both Monu and Sonu were rag pickers who were collecting empty bottles from the roadside late on Monday night. The speeding i20 car hit the boys and dragged them a few meters before crashing on the roadside. Thereafter, the car occupants fled from the spot, leaving the car behind. The boys, who were stuck under the car, were crying for help. Onlookers rescued them by turning the car over. When onlookers rescued the boys, one leg of the younger boy was cut off. The elder one also suffered severe injuries. Initial inquiries revealed that the car occupant works at a chicken shop near the spot. A few shop customers had not parked their car properly and the shop owner asked Mukesh to park the car properly. However, Mukesh lost control of the vehicle and hit the boys. tnn
