Pakyong, 15 March: A former employee of Meta (formerly known as Facebook) named Britney Levy has accused the company of paying her to do “fake work” after she was laid off in the first round of layoffs. Levy alleged that she was placed in a group of people who were not working and had to struggle to find meaningful work. She made these claims in a video on TikTok and said that many employees felt they were being set up to be laid off, adding that Meta was “hoarding us like Pokémon cards.”
These accusations have come to light amid Meta’s second round of layoffs, which will affect 10,000 jobs. Last year, the company laid off 13% of its workforce, resulting in the removal of 21,000 employees from its workforce and 5,000 job openings. Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s CEO, has emphasized the company’s plan to make 2023 the “year of efficiency,” which involves reducing headcount. However, some former employees claim that they were paid to do very little work, leaving them frustrated and with no valuable experience to add to their resumes.
