Noida: Over half a dozen Greater Noida sectors, including Alpha 1, 2, Gamma 1, 2, Delta 2, Beta 1, 2, etc., continue to face water shortages around a week after the problem first started. Residents of some sectors complained about water supply for fewer hours, while in other sectors, water trickles from taps, even on the ground floors of houses. Some residents also complained about dirty water coming out of the taps.
Alok Nagar, the RWA general secretary of Sector Delta 2, said while most sectors have been facing these problems, his sector has been the worst affected, with residents not getting water for even an hour. “Also, the water pressure has remained low for the past several months,” said Nagar. He attributed the problem to water diversion from the sector to nearby societies and many residents installing submersible motor pumps.
Sector 3 residents also complained about a low-pressure supply on Tuesday. Ashok Raj Kaushik, a resident, said that the pressure is so low that they can not even fill tanks on the ground floor of houses. However, Sandeep Sagar, the technical supervisor of the water department of GNIDA, said that they fixed the problem and resumed water supply at full pressure to the sector.
Devendra Tiger, the president of the Federation of RWAs, Greater Noida, complained about Sector Beta 1 residents getting dirty water for the past week. He also complained about a water shortage due to reduced hours of supply. “According to the Greater Noida Authority, water supply hours are from 6-9 am, then from 1-2 pm and 6-9 pm. But water now comes from only 9-10.30 am, then half an hour in the afternoon and only 2 hours in the evening,” said Tiger. “All the residents of the sector are upset. While we have approached officials repeatedly, there has been no action or redress to date,” he added.
The lack of Ganga water supply has further compounded the issue. “While the authority had promised to supply Ganga water to residents, there is no sign of that happening. Instead, we get dirty water,” Tiger said.
Recently, GNIDA CEO Ritu Maheshwari ordered officials to supply water on time and with due care to ensure quality supply. “We are following the orders and will address the problems raised,” said an official.
