THANE: A real estate developer was shot dead allegedly by two motorbike-borne assailants in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai on Wednesday evening.
The unidentified attackers fired a couple of shots at Saujibhai Patel, the owner of real estate group Emperia, while he was driving his car, police said.
Patel was taken to a hospital in Belapur where doctors declared him brought dead, said the police.
The motive behind the murder was not immediately known. Senior police officers visited the crime spot and initiated a probe.
The Emperia group, which has its head office in Belapur, a prominent business district of Navi Mumbai, is currently executing several real estate projects in Nerul MIDC, Panvel and Rasayani.
An official from the Navi Mumbai police said a manhunt was underway for the killers. The Nerul police have initiated the process to register a case of murder and also invoke the Arms Act.
