Boy falls into borewell in Madhya Pradesh

In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy died after being rescued from a borewell in Vidisha district of Madhya Pradesh, reports said on Wednesday.

Talking to newsmen, Vidisha Collector Uma Shankar Bhargava said the child who was rescued nearly 24 hours after he fell into a deep borewell, was rushed to a government hospital Lateri town, 14 kms from district headquarters, where doctors declared him dead after examination.

According to officials, the now-deceased boy, identified as seven-year-old Lokesh Ahirwar, had fallen into a 60-foot-deep borewell while playing in his native Kherkhedi Pathar village under Lateri tehsil on Tuesday morning at around 11 am and was stuck at a depth of 43 feet.

Sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Harshal Choudhary said that villagers alerted the authorities and rescued rushed to spot to pull out the child.

He said that a parallel pit was dug with the help of JCB machines (earthmovers) to pull out the child from the borewell and an oxygen pipe was lowered into the deep hole while rescuers kept an eye on the trapped boy through a night-vision device.

US Senate resolution says Arunachal Pradesh integral part of India, recognizes McMahon line

A resolution passed by the United States Senate termed Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and recognized the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and the Northeastern Indian state.

A resolution passed by the United States Senate termed Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and recognized the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and the Northeastern Indian state.

US Senator Bill Hagerty along with Senator Jeff Merkley introduced the resolution in the American Senate highlighting the critical need for the United States to “stand shoulder-to-shoulder” with its strategic partners in the Indo-Pacific region, especially India, to counter “grave threats” to a free and open Indo-Pacific from China.

Senator Hagerty said the bipartisan resolution expresses the US Senate’s unequivocal support for recognizing Arunachal Pradesh as an integral part of India and condemning China’s military aggression to change the status quo along the Line of Actual Control.

The resolution also called for further enhancing the US-India strategic partnership and the Quad in support of the Free and Open Indo-Pacific, Hagerty said.

The US Senate’s resolution comes in the backdrop of a huge clash between Indian and Chinese forces—the biggest clash in past six years—in the Eastern Sector along the Line of Actual Control. It reaffirms the United States recognizing the McMahon Line as the international boundary between China and India’s Northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh.

Speaking on the resolution, Senator Merkley said America must push back against China “alternative vision” which opposes American values supporting freedom and rules-based order, adding that these must be at the center of all of America’s actions and relationships around the world.

He said the resolution makes clear that the United States views the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh as part of the Republic of India—not the People’s Republic of China—”and commits the US to deepening support and assistance to the region, alongside like-minded international partners and donors.”

The bipartisan Senators’ resolution condemns additional China’s provocations, its use of military force to change the status quo along the LaC, construction of villages in contested areas, publication of maps with Mandarin-language names for cities and features in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and expansion of PRC territorial claims in Bhutan.

China has repeatedly laid claim that Arunachal Pradesh is their territory, however, the claim has almost every time been shot down at by other permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and other nations.

Adani row: Delhi Police foils Opposition march to ED office

The Delhi Police, Wednesday, foiled a planned march by Opposition parties to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office in the national capital to push for their demand for a probe into the Adani row

Opposition march to ED office

The Delhi Police, Wednesday, foiled a planned march by Opposition parties to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office in the national capital to push for their demand for a probe into the Adani row.

Reports said that a march by leaders of 18 Opposition parties to the probe agency’s office, which started from the Parliament today afternoon, was foiled by the police who put up blockades and deployed a massive contingent of personnel to stop the rally.

According to a statement, the Opposition leaders had planned the march to the ED office to push for an investigation into the Adani issue and its alleged connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The leaders were also protesting the alleged “misuse” of central agencies by the BJP regime against its political opponents.

However, the protesting leaders called off the march and returned to the Parliament after they were unable to move ahead. The Opposition leaders said they’ve sought an appointment with ED and will release a joint complaint letter soon.

Speaking to media after the march was foiled, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge told reporters lamented a force of 2,000 policemen was deployed to stop 200 people from leading a peaceful march. He alleged that the ruling regime wants “to suppress our voice” … “and then they talk about democracy.”

Kharge, reffering to BJP’s demanding an apology from Rahul Gandhi over his remarks in the UK said: “If someone talks about these things in a debate, a seminar, they are called anti-national.”

Notably, Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress and Sharad Pawar’s Nationalist Congress Party, did not join the march.

Opposition led by the Congress have been demanding a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) probe into the damning Hindenburg report that led to rout in shares of Adani Group since its release in January this year.

Adani Group endured over $120 billion in market losses- nearly half of the conglomerate’s estimated value—since the damning report released by US short-seller Hindenburg Research.

In its critical report, Hindenburg Research accused the Adani Group of indulging in improper use of offshore tax havens and stock manipulation while also raising concerns about high debt and the valuations of seven listed Adani companies.
