Ludhiana: The body of a construction contractor was found in a pool of blood near a construction site in Bhagpur village of Koomkalan on Tuesday morning. A few labourers noticed the body and informed the police. It is suspected that the man was killed by his nephew, who is at large. Police said that the victim was attacked with a hammer multiple times.
The deceased has been identified as Inderjit Verma, a 45-year-old resident of Dugri, who is a construction contractor. The suspect, Sunil Kumar, a mason, is on the run. He hails from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh. While Sunil’s family lives in Gorakhpur, Verma’s family lives in Dugri area of Ludhiana.
Sub-inspector Kulbir Singh, SHO, Koom Kalan police station said that Inderjit and Sunil used to work together. They had been working on a construction site in the village and used to sleep near the site. On Monday night, they were together and on Tuesday morning, at around 10am, labourers reached the construction site to find Inderjit dead and Sunil absent.
The SI said that both would often consume liquor together. According to preliminary inquiries, the two had a monetary dispute. It is suspected that they engaged in a drunken brawl and Sunil killed Inderjit with a hammer. The Koom Kalan police have lodged an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC. Police are trying to trace Sunil Kumar, who is the prime suspect.
