LUDHIANA: Taking strict note of encroachments by shopkeepers, the Ludhiana municipal corporation (MC) conducted an anti-encroachment drive in Kesar Ganj market and vegetable market near Chand Cinema on Monday.
The drive was conducted to ensure smooth movement of traffic in the areas as encroachments had caused traffic bottlenecks.
MC teams confiscated material kept on roads by the shopkeepers and vends which were installed on roadsides. In total, action was taken against around a dozen violators.
MC had received complaints against encroachments in Kesar Ganj mandi and old vegetable market near Chand cinema. Some of the fruit sellers and scrap dealers had encroached a major portion of the road near the old vegetable market.
MC superintendent Vivek Verma said members of the market associations have also been asked to ensure that movement of traffic is not disturbed in the respective markets. Meetings will also be held in this regard in the coming time and the civic body will be regularly conducting anti-encroachment drives, especially in the old city areas.
