PUNE: A woman auditor (24) with a software firm in Hinjewadi was arrested on the charge of slapping and biting a CISF inspector's left thumb around Saturday midnight at the airport, following a quarrel after she was told to pay the taxi fare.
Gunjan Agrawal, the arrested woman, was booked on a flight to Kolkata. She was produced before a magisterial court on Sunday and released on bail, police said.
When TOI on Monday called Agrawal to seek her version, her father answered the call and said, "Right now, we are not in a position to comment anything on the matter. We shall make a comment at the right moment."
Senior inspector Vilas Sonde of the Airport police said, "Agrawal reached the airport in a taxi and picked up an argument with its driver over the fare. She refused to pay him and proceeded to the departure Gate No. 1 of the airport. The taxi driver approached the airport officials, who intervened and got her to pay the taxi fare."
Sonde said, "After paying the fare, Agrawal continued to shout to create a scene, hurled abuses at the airport officials and started bullying the passengers queued up at the departure gate. The airport authorities called the CISF personnel, but she continued with her tirade. She abused the CISF personnel too."
He said, "She kept on arguing and grabbed the uniform's collar of CISF inspector Rupali Thoke (39). Agrawal then slapped and bit the right thumb of Thoke, leading to her arrest."
Thoke, who lodged a complaint in this connection with the Airport police, said, "The CISF and the airport authorities decided to lodge a criminal complaint. I acted on their instruction. I am not authorised to make any comments in the matter."
Sub-inspector Balasaheb Wakade of the Airport police said, "After arresting Agrawal, we called her parents, who flew down to Pune from Kolkata on Sunday afternoon. They told us that their daughter did her MBA (finance) before taking up the job with the software cormpany in Hinjewadi. She moved to Pune about six months ago and has been staying in a rented apartment in Hinjewadi. Her parents told us that she was feeling homesick and had decided to visit them in Kolkata."
