PIMPRI CHINCHWAD: The officials of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC)’s tax department said they would adjust the penalty paid by property holders for illegal constructions against the next financial year’s property tax bills, after the state government’s waiver on fines.
In 2022-23, around 6,257 property owners with illegal constructions paid property tax of Rs41 crore and a penalty of Rs113 crore, which would be adjusted in the coming years. PCMC tax department head Nilesh Deshmukh said still there were over 29,000 illegal property owners who are yet to pay their property tax or the penalty on it.
Deshmukh said, “With just around two weeks left for the current fiscal to end, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation has increased the cash counters across all zones and their timings have also been extended.
We are keeping a watch on property holders who are not paying the tax even after the waiver. In such cases, attachment action among other measures will be taken.”
PCMC chief Shekhar Singh said strict actions like cutting off water supply, and attachment action are underway, and will be intensified in the coming days. “We have also started auctioning off the attached properties.
Citizens should pay their property tax on time to avoid any action against them,” he said.
