This year’s Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona made it clear that the foldable form factor is going to be a big trend in 2023. Samsung, thus far, holds the highest market share and its foldables have highly positive public opinion. However, Oppo is seeking to turn the tide with the new Find N2 Flip, which is intended to rival the Galaxy Z Flip 4.

This marks the first time Oppo has made a foldable phone available to the international market. Though the device is sold at a premium price of Rs 89,999 in India, the question remains whether the Find N2 Flip can make a strong enough case to stand out.

How does the Find N2 Flip fare against the Galaxy Z Flip 4?

The Find N2 Flip offers a 50MP main rear camera along with an 8MP ultra-wide camera, and a 32MP front-facing camera. Thanks to the ability to stay open at an angle (similar to what Samsung calls Flex Mode), photos or videos — selfies in particular — can be framed using the outer screen and captured by the rear cameras for higher quality results.

Unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 4, the MediaTek Dimensity 9000+ processor is at work here, rather than Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon chip. Oppo has also limited its storage configuration to 256GB, while the Galaxy Z Flip 4 comes with three options: 128GB, 256GB, and 512 GB. Both devices feature AMOLED screens with Full HD+ resolutions and up to 120Hz refresh rates but differ in size and aspect ratios. Additionally, Oppo’s N2 Flip has a brighter peak of 1600 nits compared to Samsung’s 1200 nits, and both are compatible with HDR10+ content.

The Find N2 Flip packs quite a punch with its massive 4,300mAh battery – that’s considerably bigger than the Galaxy Z Flip 4’s 3,700mAh battery. Furthermore, with Oppo’s SuperVOOC 44W charging, it obtains full power in no time, a clear contrast to Samsung’s 25W charging, which is fast but lags behind much of the competition from Chinese manufacturers. The Galaxy Z Flip 4 does have one advantage, though: it supports wireless charging while the Find N2 Flip does not.

Furthermore, the camera on Find N2 Flip is capable of capturing up to 4K resolution at up to 30 frames per second and 1080p resolution at 60 frames per second. The Galaxy Z Flip 4, on the other hand, offers a more versatile array of video recording capacities, with 4K resolution supported at up to 60 frames per second. The Z Flip 4 also supports IPX8 water resistance, another important feature missing on the N2 Flip.

Considering all those points, it is difficult to conclude that Oppo’s foldable phone is superior to the Galaxy Z Flip 4. And while its price is similar to the Z Flip 4, the N2 Flip might have a harder time finding customers thanks to the reputation Chinese manufacturers and smartphones have developed over the years (particularly in India). Also, with the Galaxy Flip 5 on the way, it needs to be seen how long the Find N2 Flip will remain competitive.
