Pajeer’s book in Beary language released
Mangaluru: 'Pala', a collection of review articles in Beary language written by Ismat Pajeer, published by Mangalore University Prasaranga, on behalf of Mangalore University's Beary Study Chair was released at Dr Shivarama Karantha Sabhabhavana of University College Mangalore on Saturday. Prasaranga Director Prof. Somanna Hongalli said that Beary literature will flourish when youth get attracted towards it. Quality works should come out in Beary literature by organising workshops and providing proper training, he added. Prasaranga deputy director Dr. Dhananjaya Kumble said: “It is a good development that writers from the Beary community are writing from an ideological perspective. This critical anthology is a testimony to the maturity of its language,’’ he said. Beary Varthe monthly deputy editor Muhammadali Kammradi said Beary Sahitya Academy can conduct literary conferences to encourage young authors. Speaking after the book release, veteran writer Abdul Khader Kuthettur said a collection of reviews is being published in Beary language for the very first time.
IWD celebrated
Kundapura: International Women's Day was celebrated at Moodalakatte Institute of Technology, Kundapura recently. Special lectures were arranged on the occasion. On the first day, Prof Jennifer Manazes, Principal Moodalakatte college of Nursing, speaking on the gender neutrality explained how one has to change the way of speaking to eliminate the gender distinction by using gender neutral words. The programme was attended by Principal of the college Dr Abdul Kareem,Vice Principal Prof Melwin D'souza, JCI Kundapura founder President Hussain Haikadi, JCI lady division President Prema, among others.
Rachana holds event for women entrepreneurs
Mangaluru:The Rachana Catholic Chamber of Commerce and Industry held a unique programme for women on Saturday. There were 23 other women entrepreneurs who were invited as special guests, achievers in their own field, aged from various fields and age groups. Their achievements were recognised and a memento was presented to each of them.
Uptick in passenger growth at MIA
Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport (MIA), the second busiest airport in Karnataka, has been witnessing an increase in passenger footfalls in 2023. The airport handled 200,527 national and 92,290 foreign travellers in the first two months of the calendar year, stated an MIA spokesperson. Incidentally, MIA handled 138,510 domestic and 56,506 international passengers in the corresponding two months of the previous calendar year, effectively ensuring that MIA handled 97,801 more passengers in the first two months of this calendar year.
Annual special NSS camp
Mangaluru: The National Service Scheme unit of Milagres College Mangaluru is organising a weeklong annual special camp that will end on March 16. It is being held at St Thomas Church Higher Primary School, Chelur, Bantwal. The parish priest, Rev Fr Micheal D’Silva of St Thomas Church, Chelur, inaugurated the camp by planting a sapling. Rev Fr Bonaventure Nazarath, correspondent, Milagres Educational Institutions, presided over the event.
Women's Day celebrated
Mangaluru: International Women’s Day was celebrated at MCC Bank to recognise the selfless service of women staff on Saturday. Rev Sr Cecelia Mendonca, provincial superior, Bethany Congregation, Vamanjoor, who was the chief guest, said that the main objective of celebrating Women’s Day is to create awareness about the significant contribution of women to society, to emphasise the importance of the rights and honour of women in our society. She mentioned the exemplary services rendered by Mother Teresa to leprosy patients, who were poor and underprivileged in society. She said women should feel proud that the Indian President is also a woman. Women have taken on substantial roles and responsibilities in all sectors. She emphasised the need to recognise women for their patience, sincerity, dedicated work, commitment, leadership, innovation, and compassion. She advised women to be positive in their thoughts, speech and actions.
