Man facing charges after allegedly breaking into 2 Bridgeville homes

A man is behind bars after police said he broke into two different Bridgeville homes while the residents were at home Monday morning.

Bridgeville neighbors are on high alert after police said a man started burglarizing houses along Chartiers Street.

Officers said it was 9:20 a.m. when the suspect climbed through a bedroom window.

Authorities said the suspect was startled when a dog inside started barking and the homeowner started to scream, causing him to run about a mile to Hill Street, where he attempted to burglarize a home there.

“You hear about this stuff on occasion, I guess it happens but it’s hitting pretty close to home right on my own street. That’s pretty scary,” said April Woodley, who lives nearby.

Police say the second burglary happened at 9:30 a.m. This time, the suspect pushed an air condition until through he window and began climbing into the house. The resident there was also home. She reportedly grabbed a knife and then charged at the man, who ran a street away to Saint Clair street.

Lifelong Bridgeville resident Edward Chabala said he couldn’t believe what he saw as the authorities arrested the man at 10:20 a.m.

“We heard the commotion this morning, about six different police departments at the bottom of the street,” Chabala told Channel 11.

Authorities were able to identify that man as the burglar for both incidents Monday morning. Residents tell us they’ll be taking extra safety precautions.

The suspect, whose identity has not been released, was arrested and placed in the Allegheny County Jail on a $10,000 cash bond.
