If residents of Virginia and Maryland have the unfettered right to decide their respective criminal codes, why shouldn’t Washington, D.C., residents be accorded the same privilege? District residents are in worse shape than the American colonialists were in 1776, as today they cannot launch an armed resurrection and succeed against a mighty empire. Instead, they must rely on non-local politicians to decide their fates. Our country may have been founded on “no taxation without representation,” but Congress and President Biden seem oblivious to that battle cry.
