Childless woman kidnaps newborn

Haveri: A one-day-old baby girl was kidnapped by a childless woman from a hospital in Haveri on Saturday. The incident came to light only when the baby’s grandfather filed a complaint at the women police station.
According to sources, Yallamma Kumbar, a resident of Guddada Hosalli, gave birth to the baby girl at the district hospital on Saturday. The accused, Geeta Madar, a resident of Haveri, impersonated a nurse and took the baby to a private hospital on the pretext of getting it vaccinated. The baby’s grandmother also accompanied her to the private hospital. On reaching the hospital, Geetha insisted that the grandmother go and get fruits for Yellamma and promised to take care of the child. When the grandmother returned after 15 minutes, she found Geetha missing along with the child.
“Geeta surrendered before the police along with the baby on Sunday evening. A detailed investigation into the incident is underway and we will submit a chargesheet before the court,”said Pushpa, PSI, women police station, Haveli.
