LUCKNOW: The Uttar Pradesh government on Monday announced an additional cash reward of Rs 2.5 lakh for each of the five suspects in the Umesh Pal murder case. As a result, the suspects will each receive Rs 5 lakh.
The suspects have been identified as Atiq Ahmad’s son Asad Ahmad and four others — Armaan, Ghulam, Guddu Muslim and Sabir.
Umesh Pal along with two of his police gunners was shot dead by the suspects near Sulemsarai under Dhoomanganj police station in Prayagraj district on February 24.

Arman has seven cases in his name from as long as 2012, while Atiq's son Asad is named only in the Umesh Pal murder case. Similarly, Ghulam has eight cases in his name from 2012, and both Guddu Muslim and Sabir have one case only.

Initially, Prayagraj police had announced a reward of Rs 50,000 for each of them. However, on March 5, UP DGP DS Chauhan while reviewing the case, had announced a reward of Rs 2.5 lakh each for any information leading to their arrest.

Additional DG (law and order) Prashant Kumar said that all the suspects had a criminal history and teams of both the STF and the commissionerate police are working to arrest them.
