In between the flashes of glitz, the tearful speeches and the shimmers of glamour, however, here are five moments you might have missed.

If you woke up this morning to photos of Lady Gaga and our own Brendan Gleeson having a smooch on the champagne carpet, you might well have thought that there was a hot (and extremely unlikely, it must be said) new celeb couple making their debut at the Oscars. Don’t worry; Gleeson brought along his wife of 40 years, Mary. He and Gaga are currently filming Joker: Folie à Deux together – and have apparently formed a solid friendship in the process, too.

There’s an unspoken rule when you’re going to see a gig, play, movie, or anything that involves the potential to block someone else’s view: don’t be that person. Unfortunately, it seems that one particular attendee didn’t get the memo, as musician Tems – a Best Original Song nominee for her ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’ track ‘Lift Me Up’ –  wore an elaborate gown that extended above her head. She undoubtedly stunned on the red carpet, but Twitter was united in outrage over how inconsiderate it was to those sitting behind her. “Imagine waiting your whole life to be at the Oscars and you end up sitting behind a stratus cloud,” one joked.

He may have come away from the Dolby Theater empty-handed last night, but Barry Keoghan absolutely nailed his ‘Best Dressed Man’ performance. The Dubliner has eschewed the traditional/boring ‘black tux’ look throughout awards season - from his baby blue Louis Vuitton suit at the Golden Globes, to his striking red Alexander McQueen number at last month’s BAFTAs. He continued his winning run at the Oscars, once again opting for Louis Vuitton in beautiful lilac and setting a fine example for his fellow male attendees. Paul Mescal, meanwhile, perhaps nodded to his lilywhite roots with a black and white flared Gucci suit, while a special mention goes to Kerry Condon in her devastatingly elegant pale yellow Versace gown.

Ke Huy Quan and Harrison Ford’s heartwarming reunion

One of the most emotional speeches of the evening was provided by Ke Huy Quan, who tearfully proclaimed ‘Mom, I just won an Oscar!’ after winning Best Supporting Actor for his role in ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. However, one of the most heartwarming moments was when he reunited with his ‘Indiana Jones’ co-star Harrison Ford on stage, after Ford had announced the film as Best Picture winner. Former child star Quan, of course, played Short Round in the ‘Indiana Jones’ films - and that excited bear hug was as genuine and full-circle as Hollywood moments come.

The Irish contingent making it a family affair

If you’re an Irish person heading to the Oscars, you’re bringing the mammy. At least that’s what Paul Mescal did, as his mum Dearbhla was his date for the night (further cementing his ‘National Treasure’ status), Mescal wasn’t the only Irish nominee that made it a family affair, though:

Colin Farrell brought his excited 13-year-old son Henry as his +1, and Kerry Condon brought her younger brother after describing him as her ‘lucky charm’.
