Ludhiana: Talking about cases where hospitals don’t allow families to take dead bodies of their kin home unless bills are cleared by them, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjeev Arora stressed upon making people aware that this is in violation of Charter of Patients’ Rights.
Arora, who is a member of parliamentary ad hoc committee on health and family welfare, said, “Detaining dead body of a patient is a great violation of human rights, still, such incidents are happening. I advise administrations of all districts that this right should be known to citizens, and also severe action as per law be taken against violators.”
A question in this regard was also raised in Rajya Sabha, to which the Union minister of state for health had replied that the charter was available in public domain, and it stated that hospitals can’t deny dead bodies of the patients for any reason. tnn
