Shettar will host Hubballi Ugadi Utsav on March 19
Hubballi: Former chief minister Jagadish Shettar is holding Hubballi Ugadi Utsav for the first time through his SS Shettar Foundation on March 19.
Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Shettar said the event is aimed at showcasing the importance of Ugadi festival to the young generation. “We have planned a daylong programme at Shirur Park TenderSure Road, and the stretch from Kadasiddeshwar Arts College Circle to Tolanakere will be decorated with lights for two days. Ugadi procession will start at Ayyappa Swami Temple in Shirur Park at 8.30am, and celebrities will commute by a bullock cart. Veeragase troupe of Chamarajanagar, dollu troupe fro Kolhapur, Kumbha procession of women, and teams of Bharatnatyam dancers and kamsale players be part of the cultural performances. Kanthapalli Sameeranacharya will deliver religious discourse at the ground. Various folk programmes are also lined up,” he added.
He further said: “Indigenous games like tug-of-war, lagori, bugari, kuntabille, goli, gunnybag race, and lemon-and- spoon race will be organised in the evening. Richard Louis and Mimicry Gopi will present a stand-up comedy programme, and this will be followed by a musical evening by Rajesh Krishnan near Tolanakere Lake.”
