However, stocks such as Lead Reclaim and Rubber Products Ltd., GRM Overseas, Visagar Polytex, Supreme Engineering and Sanwaria Consumer, touched their fresh 52-week lows.
Overall, 2 shares ended in the green in Nifty50 index, while 47 closed in the red.
In the Nifty 50 index, Tech Mahindra, Apollo Hospital, ONGC, Britannia and Sun Pharma were among top gainers during the day, while IndusInd Bank, SBI, Tata Motors, M&M and Eicher Motors ended in the red.
The BSE Sensex closed 897.28 points down at 58237.85.
Traders piled up positions in Power, Telecommunications, ReIT, InvIT and Gas & Petroleum sectors, while selling was witnessed in Infrastructure, Petrochemicals, Media & Entertainment, Fertilisers and Cables sectors during the day.
