Stock market update: Mining stocks down as market falls

NEW DELHI: Mining shares closed lower in the Monday's session.

Madhav Marbles and Granites(up 0.79%) stood among the top gainers.

Aro Granite Industries(down 4.23%), Ashapura Minechem(down 4.04%), Pokarna(down 2.98%), MOIL(down 2.15%), 20 Microns(down 2.01%), Gujarat Mineral Dvpt Corporation(down 1.68%), Coal India(down 1.58%), KIOCL(down 1.47%), Orissa Minerals Development Company(down 0.69%) and NMDC Ltd(down 0.04%) were among the top losers of the day.

The NSE Nifty50 index ended 258.6 points down at 17154.3, while the 30-share BSE Sensex closed down 897.28 points at 58237.85.

Tech Mahindra(up 6.84%) and Apollo Hospitals Enterprises(up 0.64%) stood among the top gainers in the Nifty pack.

On the other hand, IndusInd Bank(down 7.4%), State Bank of India(down 3.17%), Tata Motors(down 3.09%), Mahindra & Mahindra(down 2.71%), Eicher Motors(down 2.65%), Bajaj Finserv(down 2.49%), Infosys(down 2.48%), Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone(down 2.38%), HDFC LIFE INSURANCE(down 2.3%) and Axis Bank(down 2.29%) closed in the red.
