Goa speaker to hear disqualification petition against two BJP MLAs on Friday
PANAJI: The hearing in the disqualification petition against former chief minister and Margao MLA Digambar Kamat and former minister and Calangute MLA Michael Lobo has been adjourned to Friday for final arguments.
Speaker of Goa legislative assembly Ramesh Tawadkar on Monday held a hearing in the petition against both the BJP MLAs. The counsel representing the MLAs sought time in the case. However, it was objected to by the counsel who was appearing for Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar.
Speaking to the media after the hearing, Patkar said that the speaker has posted the final hearing on Friday, 5 pm. He also said that the matter, which was supposed to be disposed of in three months, is taking time. “The speaker was kind enough to give us a short date. We have requested the speaker not to grant any further time,” he said.
In July last year, when the then-Congress MLAs made an attempt to join BJP, Patkar had filed a disqualification petition before the speaker against Kamat and Lobo.
