THE NATIONAL Disaster Response Force (NDRF) on Monday evening launched an operation to rescue a 5-year-old boy who fell into an uncovered borewell on a farm in Ahmednagar district earlier in the afternoon.
Local police have identified the boy as Sagar Budha Barela, whose family has temporarily migrated to Ahmednagar from Burhanpur district of Madhya Pradesh and is employed by a sugarcane-cutting contractor.
An official from Pune-headquartered 5th Battalion of the NDRF said the incident took place at 4 pm.
Rescue operation was underway at the time of going to press.
Ahmednagar district police said rescue teams are on spot.
“The borewell is around 200-feet deep and the boy is stuck somewhere in the middle. Considering the requirement of specialised tools and skilled rescuers, NDRF was called,” an official said.
