KOLAR: To tide over the situation arising out of a shortfall in milk production, Kolar District Co-operative Milk Union Limited (Komul) has decided to increase the procurement price of milk by Rs 2.1 per litre effective March 16. But there has been no decision to pass on the burden to consumers.
Komul president KY Nanje Gowda said milk procurement in the union has decreased over the last few days, affecting supply in various places, including Bengaluru.
Komul was paying Rs 31.9 to milk producers and it will now go up to Rs 33.9. Milk producers' co-operative societies which procure milk from farmers at the village level will get 10 paise extra. The societies will now be paid Rs 35.25 per litre.
Oral instructions have been issued to milk dealers in Kolar and other places not to accept big orders until further instructions. Gowda attributed the fall in milk procurement to increasing production cost, which has resulted in many farmers moving away from dairy activities.
