Rajkot: To create awareness about and promote consumption of millets, Jamnagar-based Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda ( ITRA) is organising a millets expo from March 18 to 21. The four-day ‘Health and Millets Expo’ will be held on Dhanvantri ground and will be open to all. The UN has declared 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’.
At the expo, the visitors will be able to relish over 100 varieties made out of different millets. Items like millet soup, starter, main course, sweets, hot and cold drinks, and ice cream will be there. Items like ragi papdi chaat, millet dahi vada, sorghum pizza, multi millets thepla, millets nachos, millet khichdi and faluda are expected to be major attractions.
According to a statement by ITRA, around 225 students will participate in the event where about 500 varieties of items will be prepared. About 200 of these varieties will be cooked live. A total of 86 varieties of millets have been selected for cooking at the event. The students have also prepared 80 types of packed items like khakhra, biscuits, cookies and namkeen prepared from millets.
At the event, Ayurvedic doctors will be available to examine the visitors and based on their individual health condition, the doctors would suggest millet-based diet plans.
